      You can bet your life I remember it like yesterday! I tested one more Rolls Royce in 1978... another great experience but certainly not the quietest of cars. The most expensive? YES!!! Thanks for watching!!!

    This was arguably the best-designed and well-engineered Cadillac Eldorado since the 1967-69 generation. I owned the 1983 model in Western Saddle Copper Firemist and can attest to the fabulous driveability and controlled, smooth ride of this generation. That 4-wheel, independent suspension was well thought-out and truly made the 1979-85 generation Eldorado the best handling of all generations, save for the 1992-2002 ETC. The sophisticated and complex electronics all performed flawlessly. Cadillac had vastly improved their Climate Control system. My 1983 model always blew ice-cold air conditioning. Fantastic Bose Sound system. My only, sole complaint of the 1979-1985 generation is of the engines of the 1982-1985 models. That so-called, "HT4100" boat anchor was only good for a boat anchor. Though mine never gave any problems of widely-reported coolant and oil leaks, it was just dead slow. Around town, no problems. Freeway and passing problems were terrible. Top speed was around 85mph. Too undersized displacement for such a heavy automobile. Cadillac should have kept the trusty, Cadillac 368cid EFI big block in this car. However, my fuel mileage was phenomenal @ 18mpg.

    I fondly remember the introduction of this new-sized Cadillac in April 1975. I went crazy over it. I was only 14 years old then, but I had gasoline surging in my veins. I just knew that even with the high price tag, Cadillac would sell everyone of them that they could build. Begged my father to trade in my mother's 2-year-old Cadillac Calais. "Absolutely no way!" Fast forward to the early 1980s - Our design office had a 1978 Cadillac Seville company car of which 5 of us shared. I "drove the wheels off" of that car! I eagerly looked forward to every time I drove that beautiful car. Cadillac had scored a huge hit! The first-generation Seville was without a doubt, one of the greatest automobiles of the era. BTW.........these cars were far more fuel efficient than this video suggests. Our office Seville had a digital dash panel with the Cadillac Trip Computer. That car always delivered a consistent 15mpg in town! It achieved nearly 19mpg on extended highway trips.

    In the late 80's, I had one of these as a race car. It was the biggest straight 6 you could get, with the dodge being 225 and Chev being 250. On top of that a 318 dodge 2bbl cerb would bolt right up, making this a no brainer...till the officials caught on...

    My parents bought a Toyota Celica GT in 1977. It was perfect from the get go. No loose panels, squeaks and rattles or crappy paint. It's not wonder the Japanese captured so much of the market when the Big Three would putting out turds like that.

    Disgusting...there is no excuse for such crappy quality. $6000 could by a LOT of used car in 1979...I dunno - like an old Volvo, or a decent AMC Hornet was probably only $1000.

    Pretty silly - if they wanted their return on the unbuilt CKDs, Latin America would have probably been a good market: Renault had a big presence in Argentina and Brazil.

    Nothing saves automotive aggravation quite like some basic mechanical and product knowledge, a set of tools and some elbow grease - get an old, proven design for chicken feed, prepare it for the road and service it on time...enjoy your savings!

  • @saxongreen78
    @saxongreen78 Месяц назад

    Far out, Man...with all those annoyances, one would be better off in a secondhand '64 Imperial or something like it - instead of $12,000, you could pay $800, add new tyres, brakes and shocks and still have over ten grand to play with! They deserved to go bankrupt.

  • @RADIUMGLASS

    There was a strike going on at the time a lot of these cars were built. They had a skeleton crew and the cars were just thrown together and if there was an issue a supervisor or Foreman would just say "its the dealer's problem.
